  LOADING THE SPECTROMETER
Load the autosampler.

The NMR-CTP's Bruker system uses the NMR Case autosampler. This is a deep, round tray that holds up to 24 tubes and turbines, each in an individual hole. A number of samples are loaded in a known sequence, called a queue, and their identities are entered into the system computer.

Not all NMR spectrometers are equipped with autosamplers. Without an autosampler, the operator must load each sample, and start each experiment, sequentially. It is obviously more efficient to let the instrument's computer control the loading and data acquisition. Not only does this free up the spectroscopist's time, but it also allows for unattended operation overnight and over weekends.

Check your tube to make sure that the outside is clean and dry. Remove any labels. If you must identify the tube, use a permanent marker and confine all notations to the top 2 inches (5 cm). Remove any tape, parafilm, or other sealing material from around the cap.

If you are certain that the previous sample queue is complete, remove the NMR CASE from the top of the magnet. Remove any samples, and reset the tray to the START position.

Check to insure that the turbine on your tube is still at the correct height. Load your tube(s) into the sample tray. Make sure that you note that sample identification, solvent and position number for each tube you load.

Place the tray on top of the magnet, lining up the black handle with the two black posts. The tray should lay flat on the white Teflon pads.
